When you send further entries, now, for this Opportunities page, the Challenges, and the Organizations pages, they will go up. David Allen, Concord MA, david@davidallen.org .
NYT and WaPo links are behind a paywall; if you are a subscriber, click on through. Otherwise, each of those articles is also up as a pdf; click this symbol to read.
OPPORTUNITIES
1 For our primary election system that tends to select extreme candidates:
Ranked choice voting – to give voice to a range of views, not a constrained choice of only one party or the other
2 To move beyond the electoral college:
Danielle Allen, political theorist and University Professor at Harvard, is midstream a project to ‘renovate demcracy‘. For us she offers a cornucopia of pointers, to apply our energies for democracy. Below, three of her topics currently showing on The Washington Post.
3 Her priority: To get right the size of the ‘People's house,‘ the House of Representatives. As these four articles progressively reveal.
4 Voter participation
Voting should be treated like jury duty
5 Local news
To replace the financial base for local news, we need experimentation to try out new models.
6 Social media
Social media has undermined our constitutional architecture
